The Large Black Hog is just amazing us. Yes, they have shelters, with a lot of bedding, and others to keep them warm. However, we do expect them to eat and water outside. Every day, twice a day we go out to feed them and check on their well-being and are met with enthusiasm! Enthusiasm to eat their grain, but still no downers here. Just healthy hogs, growing, enduring, and thriving, being taken care of to the best of our ability, to one day return the favor, and feed us, family, and friends new and old.
As with any challenge, we have been learning. With the babies that came down with pneumonia, we learned that we will not have late October and November litters on our Farm anymore. The winter is just too hard on the little guys. We will have our first late Febuary litters, so stay tuned and fingers crossed, we have better results. Theory is, they will have mama to keep them warm until Spring, where they will be weaned on sunshine and soon after new grass!
Here at Pasture Prime Farm, hope your January is going a lot better than ours! Have a great week! Oh, one more,
